Imagine an archipelago sculpted by the elements, where lush green hills are linked by endless sand dunes and scenic roads bordering lagoons and the ocean. These landscapes offer a striking contrast between red sandstone cliffs and a sea that shifts from delicate pink to deep blue.
Welcome to the Magdalen Islands : here, life slows down to the rhythm of the tides, but the adrenaline spikes the moment the wind rises. With consistent winds and countless spots, the archipelago is one of the best places in the world for kitesurfing, for beginners and experts alike.
Everything here is driven by the wind!
In the Islands, the wind is present about 80% of the time. During the summer season, it is particularly stable and consistent, offering ideal conditions to progress and have fun, regardless of your level.
The wind is so ever-present that it has even shaped the local architecture. You’ll notice it as soon as you arrive at your accommodation: even the house doors have to be held by a strap because the wind blows all the time! (Ha ha!).
A massive playground for every style
With over 45 kitespots across the archipelago, there’s a spot for every style. Some are perfect for learning thanks to their shallow waters, while others offer incredible wave sessions or "ultra-flat" spots, ideal for freestyle, big air, or speed records. You’ll also find perfect foil sites and one thing is for sure the possibilities for downwinders are endless!
By the way, you can check the official FQK site map to get a glimpse of our diverse playground.
The secret to fast progress: The magic of the lagoons
When you start kitesurfing, choosing the right location is just as crucial as choosing your school. Where you learn will have a major influence on how quickly you become independent.
Imagine immense lagoons with waist-deep water, a sandy bottom, and zero obstacles… In the Islands, this is our daily playground.
Learning in these conditions offers major advantages:
Safety & Confidence: You practice your first kite control directly in the water, stress-free.
Efficiency: You feel the kite's traction from your very first lesson.
Speed: You can get the board on your feet much earlier in your learning process.
Our Base Camp: Havre-aux-Basques Lagoon
At Plein Vent les îles, we primarily teach at Parc Fred Jomphe.
Here is why we chose this site for our students:
Safe Navigation: Dominant winds in the Islands come from the West. On this site, it is safe to ride in almost every direction (from South to North, via the West).
Local Wind Effect: A natural phenomenon in the lagoon often creates more wind than elsewhere on the archipelago a precious asset in light winds.
Massive Playground: A vast shallow water zone with a sandy bottom and no obstacles to learn with total confidence.
Stunning Natural Scenery: While crossing the lagoon, you’ll discover breathtaking wild landscapes, with the possibility of exploring all the way to the sea via "Le Goulet."
Want to explore the lagoon in total safety? Once you reach independence, you have the option to head out on an adventure accompanied by an experienced instructor.
We adapt to the elements!
While our base camp is at Havre-aux-Basques, the strength of the Islands lies in their diversity. If the wind shifts, we’ll take you to discover other magnificent sites, such as the wild lagoons of Pointe-aux-Loups. It’s the perfect opportunity to see the archipelago from a different angle while guaranteeing the best conditions for your progress.
Much more than a kite paradise
While we love the Islands for wind sports, the archipelago is full of treasures that will make you fall under its spell. You’ll be won over by the warm "Madelinot" hospitality, the authenticity of Acadian culture, and its vibrant music. And let’s not forget the local gastronomy: from fresh lobster and clams to halibut, every meal is a feast.
The adventure continues off the beaten path with a multitude of activities:
E-foil: A feeling of absolute freedom that lets you fly above the water! It’s the perfect activity for windless days.
Arts & Culture: Meet the local artisans. Blown glass, sand jewelry, art galleries, and charming boutiques are scattered across the Islands.
Exploration: Go kayaking, Paddleboarding, or swim in the majestic sea caves.
The Great Outdoors: Bike rides on the beach, hiking along the cliffs, or mackerel fishing.
And that’s just a glimpse... there’s so much to discover that one visit is never enough!
